Serial bank robber busted following police chase

WICKLIFFE, OH (WOIO) - Wickliffe Police arrested a serial bank robber Saturday following a chase through several Northeast Ohio communities.

According to Mentor Police, Saturday, June 11th around 10:46 a.m., the First National Bank located at 7323 Center Street was robbed.

A lone male suspect walked into the bank, passed a note to tellers and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A patrol officer responding to the scene located a possible suspect vehicle leaving and called dispatch for a detailed suspect description. Having matched up with the description, the officer attempted to stop the vehicle on SR 2 westbound near Vine Street.

The driver did not pull over after being signaled and a pursuit began heading westbound on Vine Street. The chase went through several nearby communities.

Wickliffe Police picked up the pursuit as the suspect vehicle exited SR 2 westbound at Lloyd Road. The pursuit continued westbound on Lakeland Boulevard into the city of Euclid where the suspect exited from his vehicle.

A foot pursuit by Wickliffe Police ended with the suspect being apprehended near the cul-de-sac of Blue Stone Parkway, off of E.260th Street.

The suspect was later identified Alex Darnell Harper, 26, of Richmond Heights, OH. Harper is being charged with robbery, fleeing / eluding, and tampering with evidence.

Harper is set to appear in Mentor Municipal Court on Monday, June 13th at 8 a.m.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
