Driver who killed motorcyclist still on the run

CANTON TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

Troopers in Canton Township are still looking for the driver who hit and killed a motorcycle driver.

The accident happened Monday afternoon at Sherman Church Avenue and State Route 627.

Troopers say the driver of a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass supreme was traveling north on Sherman Church Avenue and did not stop for the red light.

The driver crashed into 46-year-old Jeffrey Yoder of Mineral City who was on his Harley.

Yoder was rushed to Aultman Hospital where he died.

The passenger in the Oldsmobile 31-year-old Claude Nichols, III was rushed to Aultman Hospital with very serious injuries.

The driver fled on foot.

Canton - The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on June 13, 2011 at approximately 1551 hours. The two vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Sherman Church Avenue and State Route 627 in Canton Township.

A 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was traveling north on Sherman Church Avenue and failed to stop for a red traffic light at State Route 627. A 2002 Harley Davidson Electra Glide was traveling east on State Route 627 and struck the Oldsmobile as it entered the intersection.

The operator of the Harley Davidson, Jeffrey E. Yoder, 46, of Mineral City, Ohio was transported by Canton Township Fire Department to Aultman Hospital. Mr. Yoder sustained serious injuries and died shortly after the collision. The operator of the Oldsmobile fled on foot from the scene and has yet to be located. The passenger of the Oldsmobile, Claude E. Nichols III, 31, of Canton, Ohio was transported to Aultman Hospital by Canton Township Fire Department for incapacitating injuries.

The Canton Post is asking for the public's assistance with the apprehension of the driver of the Oldsmobile.

Canton Township Fire Department and the Canton City Police Department assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
