Never mind the doctor, Westlake cops and firefighters help bring new life into town

A routine night on the job for a Westlake policeman turned out to be anything but.

Patrolman Gerry Vogel was dispatched to a Westwood Road home for a woman in labor.

He arrived first and found Mary Hamad, already giving birth to a baby in the breech position. Her husband Nael Hamad was helping her.

Police Lt. Kevin Bielozer and Auxiliary Police Patrolman Eric Kaiser, who's also an anesthesiologist at the Cleveland Clinic, arrived shortly thereafter, as did the Fire Dept.

And just like that, Kaiser, Fire Lt. Tim ZACK, Firefighters Doug Vasi, Paul Carroll, and Patrolman Vogel delivered baby girl Noor.

She was taken to Fairview General Hospital. Both mom and baby are doing fine.
