DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - An East Cleveland Police officer resigned Friday following an investigation.
19 Action News first broke word of the investigation two weeks ago.
The East Cleveland Police officer was accused of sexually harassing a 22-year-old female during an unauthorized courtesy ride home. The officer reportedly groped himself while in the vehicle with the woman.
The female did not want to press charges, but rather alert the Police Department of misconduct.
East Cleveland Police Chief Ralph Spotts confirms to 19 Action News that the officer under investigation chose to submit his resignation Friday morning. The officer was a ten year veteran of the force and had a "good record prior to the incident" says Chief Spotts.
After the incident occurred and was reported, the officer was placed on paid leave pending an investigation. After the investigation was completed, the officer chose to resign.
