Gunman who used elderly woman as shield during robbery sentenced to 24 years

After two months on the run, a Cleveland judge sentenced a convicted robber to 24 years in the slammer.

22-year old Cedric J. Parker of Cleveland was arrested last summer on an Aggravated Robbery warrant.

Parker had been on the run after robbing the Family Dollar located at 3401 Payne Avenue.

During the Sunday morning hold-up Parker and two other teens used an elderly store employee was used as a human shield while shooting at police during his escape.

One shot fired by a suspect hit a police cruiser. Officers returned fire striking at least one of the suspects.

Cleveland Police officers and the store employee were uninjured.

Officers arrested a 16-year-old male on scene. A second suspect was arrested following a search of the neighborhood several hours later.

Parker eventually surrendered to detectives at the Justice Center and was arrested without incident.
