1 killed, 1 injured in Trumbull County plane crash


GUSTAVUS TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - The Warren Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred near the intersection of Ridge Road and Gardner Barclay Road.

The crash occurred at a private air field at 2:53 pm on Sunday, June 26th.

The aircraft, a 1946 Luscombe fixed wing, single engine airplane took off from a private airfield and was airborne for a short time before crashing.

Witness reports indicate that the aircraft took off toward the south, turned around, and was flying northbound at a low altitude when it struck the ground near the edge of the runway.

The pilot and aircraft owner, Brian N. Betts, 38, of Williamsfield, Ohio was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

The passenger, Douglas F. Bacconi, 30, of Sharpsville, PA was pronounced dead on scene.

State troopers were assisted by the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department and the Johnson Township Fire Department

The FAA and NTSB also responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
