Solon Police Cruiser Involved in Crash

A Solon Police cruiser was rear-ended at approx. 8:15 p.m. while departing the scene of an earlier injury crash on U.S. 422.  The officer and a passenger were both injured.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on U.S. 422 eastbound between Harper Road and S.O.M. Center Roads, a 2001 Jeep Wrangler drove off the right side of the roadway into the tree line for unknown reason.  The vehicle was driven by a 35 year old female from Solon and occupied by her small child.  The mother was injured during that crash; however, apparently the child was not.  The mother was transported to Hillcrest Hospital for treatment for unknown injuries.  Patrol Officer Kristi Harvey was going to transport the child in her marked police cruiser to accompany the mother.  That crash remains under investigation.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. the above Patrol Officer Harvey was westbound on U.S. 422 across from the above crash scene with the child from the first crash when she was rear-ended by a 2003 Ford SUV driven by a 32 year old female from North Royalton, occupied by her and two children.  All five parties have been transported to Hillcrest Hospital for evaluation with unknown injuries.  That crash remains under investigation as well.

All three vehicles were disabled, and required towing from the scene.  The three drivers and three passengers have been transported to the hospital.  The crash investigation is expected to continue and will be in two parts with separate reports and causative factors.  No one has been charged at this time.  Patrol Officer Harvey is a 9 year veteran of the Solon Police Department.

No further specific information will be available about involved parties until the investigations are complete.  U.S. Route 422 was closed for traffic in both directions for a short time until single lanes of travel were opened.  The eastbound lanes were cleared and opened for travel at the time of this release, one lane westbound was still closed.
