Medina accident leaves one dead, several injured

MEDINA, OH (WOIO) -

The Medina Post of the Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that happened Sunday night just after 11 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 224 and Friendsville Road.

Mark Klinect, age 52, of Burbank was driving southbound on Friendsville Road at U.S. Route 224. Eric Lee Hanning, age 32, of Wadsworth was driving eastbound on U.S. Route 224 at Friendsville Road. Hanning did not stop for the red light and struck Klinect's vehicle as it entered the intersection.

Hanning had one passenger in the vehicle with him, Stephanie Mackiewicz of Wadsworth, age 28, who was in the front passenger seat. She was transported by squad to the Akron General Hospital.

Mark Klinect had four passengers with him. Shirley Klinect, age 75, of Burbank was in the front passenger seat and died at the scene as a result of the crash.

Laura Klinect, age 49, of Burbank was in the left rear passenger seat, she was transported by squad to the Lodi Community Hospital then later Life Flighted to the Akron City Hospital. Gabriella Klinect, age 3, of Burbank was transported by squad to the Lodi Community Hospital and then Life Flighted to the Akron Children's Hospital. Gary Gallion, age 56, of Burbank was in the right rear passenger seat and was transported by Metro Life Flight to Akron General Hospital.

Lodi, Westfield, Med flight and Metro Life Flight all assisted. The crash remains under investigation.
