Alert: Two separate cougar sightings in Canton


Separate cougar sightings, seen recently, have been reported to the North Canton Police Department.

One occurred on Saturday, July 2, 2011 At approximately 8:00 AM, a resident reports seeing what she believed was a cougar walking in the rear of her yard near the southwest side of Price Park. The incident was not reported until the homeowners heard about the recent news regarding other sightings.

At approximately 1:00PM Wednesday afternoon, a. motorist called a family member to report he saw a cougar in the 100 block of Easthill Street SE. In turn, the family member called the North Canton Police Department to report the sighting. An officer was dispatched to cheek the area but no cougar was seen.

The police department has forwarded this information on to the ODNR Wildlife Officer serving for Stark County, OH.

Due to the these and other reports of cougar sightings in Stark County, this media release is to serve as a public safety reminder for all who live, work, or visit the City of North Canton to he aware of their surroundings for safety's sake. Safety is a responsibility we all need to share- The public is encouraged to report such incidents as soon as possible to the North Canton Police Department at 330-499-5911.
