CLARIDON TWP, OH (WOIO) - A local neighborhood is on high alert after surprise visitor popped up in the area.
19 Action News viewers in Geauga County snapped a picture of a black bear in their yard on Stoneledge Drive.
According to officials, the animal left behind minimal damage and didn't go after any humans.
It was apparent the bear had been in the Petrik Family's yard for a while. Several bird feeders were torn down and the bird seed was all gone. There were also paw prints throughout the mulch.
Gwen Petrik tells 19 Action News that she grabbed her camera and snapped a quick photo. "I didn't feel threatened by her at all, soon as she heard a noise and saw me she didn't run or anything she just wondered off into the woods" says Petrik.
The Petrik family had two close encounters with the bear Wednesday. The first was around 4:30 p.m. in the back yard, and the second sighting happened later that night around 8:30 p.m. "My cousin saw the bear yesterday when we were in the hot-tub. It was a little scary. She said she saw it come right out of the woods. It just walked right past my bedroom window so we were right next to it" says Jessica Petrik.
The bear shouldn't be coming after humans, this time of year they are after nuts, seeds and berries
