Nearly 7 hour standoff ends peacefully, woman shot recovering at Metro

MAPLE HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - Life is getting back to normal for several families in Maple Heights after a Sunday afternoon shooting and nearly seven hour standoff.

"I hear kicks on my door…boom boom boom. They finally got in. I was waiting for them to come around the corner and I see a flashlight I see the police. They point they guns at me, I put my hands up immediately," said Philip Glanton.

Police arrested six people in the incident, the suspected shooter is among them.

Swat teams and apartment building residents spent hours in the sun and heat, because of the standoff at the St. Clare Street Apartments.

According to police, a report of a person shot came in around 10 a.m. on Clare Avenue near Warrensville Center Road. Police say a woman was shot while taking out the trash at 20315 Clare Avenue.

The suspects reportedly ran into the apartment building after the shooting and hid.

The female victim was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.

Initially there were reports that several kids were being held hostage but those reports turned out to be untrue.

Maple Heights, Bedford, Warrensville Heights Police and SWAT assisted and helped diffuse the situation.

All of the suspects are in custody. So far no charges have been filed.
