GREEN, OH (WOIO) - The Akron-Canton Airport has reopened following a brief shutdown due to flooding from severe storms.
4.73 inches of rain fell in the area over a three-hour period, beginning at 2AM.
The airport lost primary power sometime Monday night because of flooding in the terminal building basement, where the electrical distribution is located.
The backup generator kicked on around 4:45AM, allowing early morning flights to depart. At 8:15AM, the airport terminal building shut down all power as a safety precaution to pump out water which had started to recede.
The airport has on average 4,000 passengers daily.
