TRUMBULL COUNTY (WKBN)
(WKBN) - There was one fatality as a result of Friday's storm in Trumbull County. Angel Eckart, 32, of Burghill, was driving in the 5000 block of Sodom Hutchings Road, south of Route 88, in Johnston Township when a tree fell on top of her car's passenger side just after 5 p.m.
The tree crushed the roof of the 1991 Toyota Corolla onto Eckart and crews had to cut the tree in order to get her out. Resident John Peters said the winds were gusting very hard. "The trees were leaning over, I could hear the house rattling and shaking. I can see why all these trees are down," Peters said.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has not yet released her name. A supervisor at the Trumbull County 911 Center said dispatchers handled 153 calls between 4:30 and 9:30 p.m., most of them storm related. He said calls were still coming in late Friday about downed trees and wires, with the first call coming from Braceville Township at 4:30 p.m. He said no other injuries were reported from the storms.
Ohio Edison spokeswoman Robin Patton said 3,100 customers in northern Trumbull County were still without power because of the storms at 9:30 p.m. She said the outages were scattered, but most of them were in Kinsman, Bloomfield and Johnston. She did not know when all the customers would be restored.
In Hartford, a man tried putting out a downed live wire with a bucket of water. Officials said you should never approach a live wire and should call the fire department for assistance.
