Law enforcement student steals bulletproof vest from cops

ALLIANCE, OH (WOIO) -

A 23-year-old busted for stealing from Alliance cops.

Miles A. Hartman was at the police station on June 30th for a civilian ride-a-long when he noticed a bullet proof vest hanging in the locker room to "air out."

Hartman entered the bathroom and proceeded into the officers' locker room where he found the vest, put it on under his shirt and left the department through the far west exit.

Surveillance caught him on video with the vest outline under his shirt.

Hartman - who is going to school for Law Enforcement and works security - was tossed in the Stark County Jail.

Police tell 19 Action News Hartman's stunt will not deter their efforts to familiarize the public on law enforcement, but they are very disappointed in what occurred.
