Relocating: Dozens of senior citizens being made to move

Residents of Silver Oaks Place in Kent learned earlier this month that the place they call home is being sold to a new owner and they have get out.

Plans for the 22-building complex call for new owner Capstone Development Corp., to convert the retirement community into housing that will be marketed to Kent State students, according to Tell Real Estate Trust.

Nearly all of the residents of Silver Oaks are senior citizens and live off a fixed or low income and are unable to afford to relocate.

The residents were given eviction notices last week.

They have to be out by October 1st.

The Alabama company has offered to pay all moving costs to residents who move within 40 miles and meet the Oct. 1 deadline.
