On the day the Browns started training camp, the Cleveland Indians stole the show.
The club announced a deal with Colorado, acquiring their ace pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez in exchange for four prospects. Jimenez won 19 games last year and, after a terrible start this season, has won six games since June 1st. Jimenez is considered an ace and should lead the Indians staff for the next few years. He is under contract through 2013.
The Tribe traded four prospects for Jimenez. Pitchers Drew Pomeranz, Alex White, Joe Gardner and first baseman Matt McBride. Pomeranz and White are the two big names. Pomeranz is considered a "player to be named later", he can't be traded until mid-August for contractual reasons. That's when he will officially change teams.
Cleveland also sent 2B Orlando Cabrera to San Francisco for a minor league outfielder. They are also in talks with San Diego about getting outfielder Ryan Ludwick.
The Indians also won a game in thrilling fashion on Saturday night. They scored four times in the bottom of the 9th to rally past Kansas City 5-2. Matt LaPorta hit a walk off three run homer to end the game.
