Now Hiring: Progressive plans to hire 131 people by the end of next month

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OH (WOIO) - Smart, outgoing people looking for a rewarding career should consider Progressive car insurance, named one of the Plain Dealer's top workplaces in Northeast Ohio for 2011.

Progressive, the fourth largest auto insurance group in the country, is looking to fill 23 information technology and analyst positions, and 108 sales, service, and claims phone representative positions by the end of September. In May, Progressive announced it was hiring 125 people.

Those hired in information technology will work on the technical infrastructure and platforms that support Progressive's business systems as well as its award winning website. Candidates must have an associate's and/or bachelor's degree in an information technology or related discipline, which could include computer science, software engineering, or mathematics. For some positions, in lieu of a degree, related work experience is accepted.

Those hired as analysts play key roles in pricing and product analysis. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in finance, mathematics, accounting, economics, statistics or the equivalent.

Phone representatives will sell policies, answer customer questions, and help customers file claims after car accidents. Jobs require a minimum of two years' post-secondary education or two years' work experience in a customer service environment.

"Progressive is known for taking risks and introducing innovative products," said John Hoppes, national recruiting director at Progressive. "We are looking for energetic, customer-focused people who are passionate about finding new ways to solve problems and create ways to meet and exceed our customers' needs. In return, Progressive offers a culture that understands and welcomes diversity, rewards people for being themselves, thinking differently and for the ideas they bring."

Flexible scheduling options are available for some of the positions, such as the ability to work four 10-hour days with three days off instead of the typical five-day work week.

In addition to medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits, Progressive employees also enjoy:

  • potential bonuses based on company performance;
  • an on-site health services facility and fitness center;
  • parenting resources, such as a child-care subsidy and maternity services;
  • tuition assistance; and
  • a casual dress code.
