Boston (WOIO) - Being close isn't good enough, when you're in a battle for the division title, but that's the best the Indians could do once again in Boston on Wednesday night, falling 4-3 at Fenway Park, after another 9th-inning Red Sox rally.
For the second straight night, it was Jacoby Ellsbury winning it for Boston, this time on a solo home run off Joe Smith, the first home run Smith has given up all season.
David Ortiz got the Red Sox going in the first inning, singling off Carlos Carrasco to bring two runs home for a 2-0 lead.
The Indians answered in the fourth inning off Tim Wakefield, with Jason Kipnis going deep for the fourth straight game, and Travis Hafner doubling home the tying run.
The two teams traded runs again after that, with Marco Scutaro bringing Ortiz home in the fourth on a fielder's choice, and Zeke Carrera's RBI ground rule double tying it again in the 7th.
With the loss, the Tribe is now four games back of Detroit in the A.L. Central.
