Police release name of Copley officer who gunned down madman in massacre

COPLEY, OH (WOIO) - Police have released the name of the police officer who gunned down the madman in the Copley massacre.

Officer Ben Campbell is the officer who confronted 51-year-old Michael Hance on Schocalog Road, just moments after the lunatic fatally wounded a child hiding in the home's basement.

Hance had already shot and killed seven people, including an 11-year-old boy and two 16-year-old girls, and shot and seriously wounded his 49-year-old girlfriend, Rebecca Dieter.

A retired police officer, Keith Lavery, lives in the neighborhood and was standing with Officer Campbell.

As part of procedure, the Summit County Sheriff's Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
