Popular Parma Heights bowling alley goes up in smoke

PARMA HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - Several fire departments helped battle a blaze at a popular Parma Heights bowling alley Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters tell 19 Action News the fire started in the kitchen around 3:30PM, and quickly spread.

Thick smoke spewing from the building could be seen from blocks away.

There were five bowling lanes open when the fire sparked. Customers and bowling alley employees were able to safely escape.

A number of people gathered at the bowling alley upon learning of the fire, concerned for the beloved landmark.

"Anytime you walked through the doors, it was like, going back in time," said one women. "It wasn't all glitzy. It was just like, I'm here to bowl."

The kitchen area is believed to be a total loss.

The owner is planning on rebuilding, and reopening, within a few weeks.
