Exclusive: Dad speaks out after stressed mom drops off son in the middle of the street

AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Akron Police say charges are pending for a mother who left her toddler in the middle of the road because she was stressed.

After dropping off the tot, the mom was involved in a three car accident with serious injuries.

Akron Police tell 19 Action News that Tuesday at 11:37 a.m., a woman who claimed to be stressed out about the death of her father took her 3-year-old son out of her car and left him in the roadway in the 500 block of W. Waterloo Road then drove off.

A witness saw the drop off and called 9-1-1.

"I didn't think about it. There was a baby in the road," said Nicole Price.

Spencer's dad Omar, who's never met Nicole, wants to say thank you.

"This is the love of my life. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be holding him right now. I just want to say thank you and give you a big hug, god bless and tell you thank you," said Omar Morgan.

After dropping off her son, the mom was involved in a three car crash. All three drivers including the mom were transported to a local hospital with injuries. One of the drivers sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries.

"I'm trying to understand. She is a great mother, has never hurt the children, she's taught me how to be a better dad. I just hope people don't judge. She just cracked under pressure," said Omar Morgan.

Police responded to the area where the toddler was dropped off and located him. He was placed in the custody of Summit County Children's Services along with his mother's two other children who were with a relative at the time of the incident. They are all back home now.

As to why she did it, this was her explanation.

"She just said I heard voices, they wanted to kill Spence, that's why I had to get him out of there," said Omar Morgan.

Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards tells 19 Action News that charges against the mother are pending at this time.
