Ohio Gov. John Kasich has designated September as “Ohio Real Estate Safety Month”

The purpose of Ohio Real Estate Safety Month is to help create safety awareness among real estate practitioners and to remind them about the importance of safety. Safety experts say that selling real estate is one of the most dangerous jobs there is, but knowing simple strategies can help save lives.

This marks the ninth year that the Ohio Association of REALTORS has participated in a collaborative safety campaign with the Ohio Real Estate Commission, Ohio Division of Real Estate & Professional Licensing and Columbus State Community College. The campaign encourages all the state's licensees to "work smart and stay safe."

"We are deeply committed to safety in the real estate workplace," said Ohio Association of REALTORS President Meg Hudson. "We are proud to be a partner in this invaluable campaign and look forward to an ongoing awareness effort.

"Unfortunately, the risks real estate practitioners face often have an impact with tragic consequences. Working with an unfamiliar person, in an isolated location, may potentially expose both male and female agents to life-threatening situations," Hudson said.

The Ohio Association of REALTORS, with more than 28,000 members, is the largest professional trade association in Ohio.
