Two starters suspended for Saturday's game
Ohio State has suspended three players for Saturday's game against Akron at the "Horseshoe."
Starting running back Jordan Hall, starting defensive back Travis Howard and sophomore defensive back Corey Brown said they received impermissible benefits at a charity event. The players claimed they received less than $300 for the event they attended earlier this year.
According to a statement issued by the university, school officials reported the infractions to the NCAA as well as the Big Ten.
"We take this matter seriously," said Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith in a statement. "Our commitment to institutional integrity is steadfast, and we must hold everyone associated with our athletics programs accountable for lapses in judgment. We believe in transparency with the NCAA, all regulatory bodies and all of Buckeye Nation."
