Police charged man in death of girlfriend's daughter


Elyria Police have charged a boyfriend in the death of his girlfriend's child.

On September 11th Elyria Police Officers were notified of a 2-year-old being treated by emergency room personnel.

Police learned that a LifeCare Ambulance was called to a house in the 800 block of Rosewood Drive for a report of a child that was very lethargic and bleeding from her mouth.

LifeCare Personnel found the child in full cardiac arrest and transported her to EMH.  Once at the hospital, doctors declared the child, identified as Aavianna Payne dead.

An autopsy was conducted by the Lorain County Coroner and a blunt force trauma injury to the child's head contributed to her death.

Police executed a search warrant of the address where Aavianna lived.

Police learned that she lived at the residence with her mother, Margot Young, 26 and her 7-year-old sister along with Young's boyfriend, Luis Lopez, 25.

The investigation has concluded that the injuries to Aavianna Payne were caused by Luis Lopez.

Lopez has been charged with one count each of Involuntary Manslaughter and Child Endangering. Specifics as to how the injuries were caused are being withheld at this time pending future interview and investigations.
