Westlake police investigate fatal accident

WESTLAKE, OH (WOIO) -

Westlake police are investigating a fatal accident.

It happened on Tuesday evening around 8PM at the intersection of Detroit Road and Settlers Reserve Way.

Police say a 2000 KTM motorcycle operated by 56-year-old David Millard was traveling westbound on Detroit while a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by a 17-year-old Westlake boy was northbound on Settlers Reserve Way.

Preliminary indications are that after stopping at the stop sign on Settlers Reserve Way, the Santa Fe entered the intersection. The motorcyclist laid his vehicle down, slid, and ended up underneath the Santa Fe.

A passing nurse stopped to render aid.

Millard was rushed to St. John Medical Center. From there, he was lifeflighted to MetroHealth where he later died.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.

No charges have been filed. When completed, the investigation will be forwarded to a Juvenile County prosecutor for a ruling.
