Caught on Camera: Highway Patrol cruiser struck during traffic stop

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash after a trooper's cruiser was struck during a traffic stop in Middleburg Heights.

The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday. Trooper John Beeler pulled over Eyob Gebregiorgis of Columbus. Gebregiorgis stopped in the middle lane of I-71 instead of pulling his car over.

Beeler was attempting to get the car out of traffic when a car plowed into the back of the patrol car, forcing Beeler and Gebregiorgis to the ground.

In video released Friday, you hear screeching tires and a loud thud as the two men were knocked down by the force of the crash.

Beeler and Gebregiorgis suffered minor injuries. The driver who hit the patrol car was cited with moving violations.
