Cleveland Police zone car stolen, suspect arrested

Cleveland Police say a CPD zone car was stolen early Saturday morning, but was located using the technology in the car to track it and arrest the suspect.

Police responded to a shooting inside Club Alchemy at 1575 Merwin Ave around 4:30am.  One male victim was shot by an unknown male suspect after the victim bumped into the suspect while pushing his cousin in a wheelchair.  The victim was shot in the right hand and right leg.  Police say he is being treated at MetroHealth Medical Center and his injuries are not life threatening.

During the shooting investigation one of the Patrol Officers left the keys to his zone car in the ignition and when he was done at the scene found that his car was missing.

Dispatch was notified and the GPS for the zone car was activated.  Officers in the area were given the direction of travel for the stolen car.

The stolen cruiser was spotted by officers stopped on the berm on I-71 North near Bellaire Ave. and they took Jevonte King into custody.

There was no city issued property missing from the zone car, but one of the tires was destroyed.  The car is being inspected for any other damage.

King was arrested for grand theft and cited for OVI.
