MASSILLON, OH (WOIO) - A community is in mourning after a 15 year old girl is hit and killed, trying to cross a road.
Not one but two vigils were held Sunday night for Holly Wigington. She crossed a busy four lane highway, something she'd done several times before, but Saturday night was the last time.
"She was my little sister. I miss her," Thomas Sturgill yelled!
Tears and unbearable grief over Holly, who was gone in an instant. According to family members Holly Wigington had just left Taco Bell and was trying to walk across Rt. 21 when she was hit and killed by a truck. To make things even more tragic it all happened right in front of her grandmother's house.
"She was in the turning lane and a truck came up and hit her. I heard she was looking at the sky when the truck came up and hit her," said Thomas Sturgill.
As busy as the four lane highway is friends and family say that it wasn't unusual for Holly to cross the street there. They say she loved Taco Bell.
Police say they are investigating but at this point what happened seems to be just a horrific accident. Now flowers and candles mark Holly's favorite place to sit in the park, in the middle of Beach City where she lived. At the place where the accident happened in Massillon her friends are asking drivers to honk for Holly...
"She was so funny. She makes everybody have a good day. You could have the worst day and she would come up and that would change."
Investigators say alcohol was not a factor in this crash and that right now they can't say whether or not the driver that hit Holly Wigington will face any charges.
