No answers after girl shot in head while driving buggy

Holmes County Sheriff Deputies along with Wayne County Deputies and Ohio BCI&I Agents are investigating the shooting death of a 15-year-old Wayne County girl.

Rachel M. Yoder, of Fredricksburg, died Friday afternoon. She had been shot in the head near the intersection of CR 229 and TR 614 in Salt Creek Township.

Investigators say Yoder was returning home from an employee Christmas party at around 10PM after dropping off another friend at her home. She was heading west in her buggy when she was shot. Yoder remained inside the buggy until it arrived near her residence where she apparently fell out along a buggy path. The victim's brother noticed the horse and buggy going in a circle and went out to check and found the victim lying on the ground unresponsive.

Not knowing she had been shot, family members told EMS personnel that she hit her head when after falling out of the buggy. She was transported to Orrville Dunlap Hospital then flown to Akron City Hospital. A CT Scan at Akron City Hospital then determined the injury to be a gunshot wound.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning at the Summit County Coroner's Office.

Deputies are treating the investigation as a Homicide until or unless it can be proven accidental or otherwise.

Anyone in the area of the shooting that may have information is asked to call the Holmes County Sheriffs Office at (330)674-1936.
