Accomplice sought in ATM theft attempt

WILLOUGHBY, OH (WOIO) - Willoughby Police responded to the Sonoco gas station on Vine Street early Monday morning.  The first officer to respond noticed a Dodge Caravan in the parking lot and as cops pulled in, the van fled.

Officers followed the van to a cul-de-sac on St. Clair Street and tried to pull the suspects over.  The driver drove off the road and crashed into the brush and two males took off out of the van

Willoughby Police surrounded the immediate area and after a brief period of time, both male suspects were apprehended.  One male, later identified as Darllel Orr, age 32, from Warrensville Heights, was found hiding behind several garbage cans against an unattached garage on St. Clair Street.  The other male, identified as Ladolphus Dobbins, age 36, from Cleveland, attempted to run from police officers as he exited the brush, but was immediately secured.

After checking the Sunoco gas station, it was discovered that Orr and Dobbins had forced entry through the front door of the business using a crowbar.  The two men attempted to open up the stand-alone ATM machine and pry it from its bolted position from inside the business.

Officers also discovered that the van the suspects were driving had been stolen out of Cleveland and belonged to Suburban School Transportation.

Orr and Dobbins were charged with Vandalism, Breaking & Entering, Receiving Stolen Property, Safecracking, Possession of Criminal Tools, and Resisting Arrest.

It was believed that there might have been an accomplice involved.  If anyone has any information that would be help in identifying and/or apprehending an accomplice, please contact Detective Thomas Bertone or Detective Sergeant Jim Schultz at 440-953-4210.
