Shaker Heights teen dies in snow tubing accident

PARK CITY, UTAH (WOIO) - A 16-year-old Shaker Heights girl dies in a snow tubing accident in Utah.

The accident happened earlier this week at the Deer Valley Resort.

Jessica Frankel was on the tube with 17-year-old Janet Oliva, also of Shaker Heights.

The girls slammed into a tree.

Jessica died last night in a Utah Hospital. Janet has been upgraded to fair condition.

Gross Schechter Day School headmaster Rabbi Jim Rogozen told 19 Action News that Jessica's death is a terrible loss.

"Jessica was a wonderful, intense, passionate, and focused girl. She was a friend to everyone, very polite and a pleasure to have in my school. Jessica was a great kid and I was very proud of the woman she had become," said Rabbi Rogozen.

Jessica was a junior at Laurel School Shaker Heights and an alumna of Gross Schechter Day School in Pepper Pike.

Services will be held Fri., Dec. 23, at 11 a.m., at Park Synagogue Main. The family will receive friends at the residence of Lori and Donald Frankel, 2690 Southington Road, Shaker Heights, Friday following interment, Sat., Dec. 24 from 6-9 p.m., and Sun., Dec. 25, from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Contributions may be made to Laurel School or Gross Schechter Day School.
