Local Senator drops out of Congressional race

State Senator Nina Turner is pulling out of a primary battle with Congresswoman Marcia Fudge.

Turner says the way the new congressional districts were laid out pretty much guarantees incumbents will win.

Turner could still run as an Independent.

The filing deadline is March 5th.

Congresswoman Fudge's office released the following statement upon hearing of the withdrawal:

I have great respect for State Senator Nina Turner and I wish her well in her future endeavors.  It is my intention to maintain the trust and confidence of the people of the 11th Congressional District and provide the representation they deserve. It is my honor and privilege to serve them.  I look forward to the opportunity to continue to be their voice in Congress.
