One puppy dead, others recovering at vet after owner dumps them at school

LORAIN, OH (WOIO) - One puppy is dead and two others being treated at a vet's office after being abandoned by their owner.

A Lorain Police Officer found the puppies Saturday morning at Longfellow Middle School on Louisiana Avenue.

The dead puppy was found in the driveway, and two other pups were cuddled next to each other near the curb.

The officer took the surviving puppies to a veterinarian. They are Labrador/pit bull mix pups.

The vet tells 19 Action News the puppies are fairly healthy. They've got a few dry patches on their bodies, but nothing to be concerned about.

"Good appetites, very friendly, teething," said Jennifer Pappas from the Lorain Animal Clinic.

Police say criminal charges will be filed against the owner - if found.

The puppies will be taken to the Lorain County Dog Pound on Tuesday, and will be available for adoption.
