ASHTABULA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The Ashtabula Animal Protective League (APL) rescued fourteen dogs from a home in Conneaut where a woman claimed she was just trying to help.
The owner said she was trying to give the animals a good home but became ill with cancer and could no longer take care for the nearly two dozen animals. When the APL arrived at the scene, many of the dogs were nearly starved to death.
At least one dog did not make it, another was taken away by a Great Dane rescue group. The remaining dogs are Pit Bulls.
Investigators tell 19 Action News they are worried there are even more dogs that need to be rescued inside the woman's home, but she's cooperating.
The pet owner has not been charged at this time.
