Series of underground explosions knock out power in Cleveland

A series of underground explosions caused a power outage in parts of Cleveland and Old Brooklyn early Monday morning

Cleveland Fire said they received calls about explosions coming from manholes just before 1AM. Some areas around Pearl & State Roads and Brookpark Road were reporting outages.

Cleveland Public Power tells 19 Action News a high voltage power line exploded under the street.

"Because we're talking 11,000 kilovolts, that carries a large amount of power," said Shelly Shockly with Cleveland Public Power. "Therefore, you will have something that sounds like an explosion and it did cause a fire in the manhole."

CPP did not have exact numbers, but power was in the neighborhood for at least an hour.
