Former Executive Director of Metroparks pleads to indecency charge

PARMA, OH (WOIO) - The former Executive Director of the Metroparks was in court Monday morning.

Vern Hartenburg pleaded no contest to public indecency.

He must pay a $250 fine, was placed on 36-month probation and is banned from the Metroparks for three years.

The 64-year-old was arrested along with six men as part of an undercover stint last November.

The Parks spokeswoman says Hartenburg exposed himself to a male ranger in the parking lot of the Memphis Picnic area in the Big Creek Reservation.

This is the same park where earlier this year, a Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Deputy was caught fondling himself in front of a woman. And in 2009, Olmsted Township Police Chief Charles McNeely was busted here for engaging in oral sex with another man.

The rangers headquarters was recently renamed after Hartenburg upon his retirement.
