Twelve Amish people charged with hate crimes, pled not guilty before a Federal Judge Wednesday afternoon. The courtroom was packed with Amish, many in tears.
Prosecutors say the accused cut off the hair of fellow Amish men and women they did not think were faithful enough.
Samuel Mullet, Sr., Johnny S. Mullet, Daniel S. Mullet, Lester S. Mullet, Levi F. Miller, Eli M. Miller, Emanuel Schrock, Lester M. Miller, Raymond Miller, Freeman Burkholder, Anna Miller and Linda Schrock all pled not guilty.
The Judge is keeping the seven original suspects, Samuel Mullet, Sr., Johnny S. Mullet, Daniel S. Mullet, Lester S. Mullet, Levi F. Miller, Eli M. Miller and Emanuel Schrock, behind bars. The five remaining suspects were released on bond.
The charges against them include; hate crimes, conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
The attacks happened in Jefferson, Trumbull, Holmes and Carroll Counties.
