Pipeline Problem: Hazmat situation forces dozens to evacuate

WELLINGTON - Dozens of Lorain County residents were evacuated from their homes Thursday night after an underground gasoline pipeline ruptured.

Wellington Fire officials say they were notified around 10:45PM of raw fuel coming out of the ground near State Route 58 and Maple Street in Wellington.

No injuries have been reported.

Residents of the Brookside Mobile Home Park had to be evacuated. They are being housed temporarily at the Village Town Hall. Officials expect the evacuation to last through the night.

The ruptured gas transmission pipeline is owned by the Sun Pipeline Company.

Wellington Safety Crews along with Lorain County Hazmat and the Ohio EPA are still on the scene working to clean up the mess.
