ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - At least one person was injured in an early morning explosion at a metal processing plant.
According to the Elyria Fire Department, the explosion at the Elyria Foundry on Filbert Street happened around midnight on Friday.
The explosion was caused by molten metal that mixed with metal containing excess moisture. The ceiling and one wall inside the plant caught fire.
An employee suffered minor burns to the back and was transported by EMS to the hospital for treatment.
Fire crews had to be very careful to not cause additional explosions while putting the fire out.
Elyria Fire investigators will be working with Elyria Foundry officials to assess the damage.
