AKRON, OH (WOIO) - A bank robber in Akron didn't get too far before police were hot on his trail. Around 1:30 Friday afternoon, the PNC Bank, located at 1727 Goodyear Boulevard, was robbed by a male wearing a ski mask and armed with a black handgun.
The suspect fled westbound from the bank with an unreported amount of cash and got into a truck at Hillside Terrace and Ottawa Street.
But officers were right on his trail and stopped the vehicle. They located the suspect and money inside of the truck. The man was immediately taken into custody without incident.
Officers then located a ski mask and firearm at the rear of a business on Goodyear Boulevard.
The suspect, identified as Benjamin Gandy, 22, of Akron will be charged with robbery and booked into the Summit County Jail.
The driver of the getaway truck, Angel Zaragoza Castillo, 21, of Cuyahoga Falls, was also arrested. He was charged with Complicity to Commit Robbery and booked into the Summit County Jail.
