Family of five escapes overnight house fire; pets killed

PARMA, OH (WOIO) - A family of five in Parma escapes a raging house fire early Tuesday morning.

Flames sparked around 3:20AM on South Park Boulevard.

Five people were inside the home when the fire started, but all escaped unharmed. Three family pets died in the fire

The fire captain tells 19 Action News the blaze threw a few curve balls at the crews trying to knock it down.

"It was troublesome in the fact that, based on this type of construction, the amount of time it had to get some head way, we had to aggressively chase it," said Parma Fire Captain Peter Poznako. "But we managed to cut it off and extinguished it."

Crews are investigating what started the fire, and are focusing on the basement. The home suffered significant damage.
