The Indians pitcher known as Fausto Carmona has been released on $13,000 bail (500,000 pesos). With tears in his eyes, Carmona made the following statement after his release- "I ask for the forgiveness of my fans, the government of the United States and the Cleveland Indians for this situation."
Carmona has been ordered not to leave the Dominican Republic and will be monitored by the court.
Police arrested him Thursday outside the U.S. consulate in his native Dominican Republic when he arrived to get his visa renewed. Spokesman Maximo Baez Aybar said Carmona's real name is Roberto Hernandez Heredia and that he is actually 31 years old, three years older than he had claimed.
