Kirtland Hills officer struck by car

LAKE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - A Kirtland Hills police officer was struck by a vehicle while assisting a disabled vehicle early Monday morning.

It happened around 7:20AM on Chillicothe Road.

19 Action News has learned two Kirtland Hills officers in marked police cars were assisting a disabled vehicle and were trying to help the vehicle re-enter the roadway.

A vehicle operated by Herbert Matthews III was traveling northeast on Chillicothe road and struck one officer who attempting to stop traffic.

The injured officer was subsequently transported to Tripoint Medical Center in Concord by the Kirtland Fire Department.

The officer was evaluated and released with minor injuries.

Matthews was not injured in the incident.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
