Orangutan at Cleveland Zoo implanted with birth control device

A groundbreaking medical procedure at the Cleveland Zoo.

Kitra, a young Bornean orangutan, was implanted with a birth control device.

A doctor from the Cleveland Clinic was on hand to instruct the zoo's veterinarian team on how to implant the new device.

Kitra slept through the entire procedure, and is doing well.

She is expected to be returned to the Rain Forest Exhibit by day's end.
