19 Action News has discovered it took 11 minutes to get an ambulance to the scene of a fatal fire.
The deadly apartment fire happened Thursday afternoon on Rocky River Drive.
Cleveland firefighters arrived on scene in less than four minutes, and there may have been no way to save the person who died. But, time and time again we are seeing long EMS response times.
Three other people were injured during the blaze that began in a first floor unit.
City EMS crews often get stretched with calls backed up, and it doesn't help now that Huron Hospital is closed. Paramedics spend more time taking patients across town than they did before.
The City of Cleveland is now merging the fire and EMS services to improve response times. Friday afternoon, the plan was still on pace to happen in 2012.
