Middleburg Heights to ban all sex offenders from community center

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - Middleburg Heights plans to ban all sex offenders from using the community center.

Sex offenders living in Middleburg Heights were already banned from the center, but now the city plans ban all sexual convicts.

Beginning March 1st, employees will be required to compare all guests driver's licenses to the National Sex Offender List. Those on the list will not be allowed into the center.

"All we're trying to do is get a firm control over who comes in our center and who's coming in with our members," says Carl Guanier.

"Parents are just dropping their children off and assuming that they're safe.  In good conscience I can not say they are safe if we don't do our due diligence."

Center officials have not had any issues with sex offenders to date, but are taking proactive steps to protect their guests.
