Akron will induct six into Hall of Fame

The University of Akron Department of Athletics announced its 37th Annual Varsity "A" Association Sports Hall of Fame inductees.

The class of 2011 – Cheryl Bowles (women's basketball), Chris Garrison Byers (volleyball), Zac Derr (football), Ray Jackson (cross county, track), Don Lombardi (baseball) and Billy Rudison (football) – will be honored at a banquet on Friday, Feb. 10 at the University's Martin Center Ballroom.

Also being recognized that night will be Kenneth "Red" Cochrane Meritorious Service Award recipient the Gary and Karen Taylor Family, and Mike Krino Varsity "A" Achievement Award recipient Ernie Stadvec.

The eight honorees will take the total in the UA Varsity "A" Sports Hall of Fame to 353 which includes 295 student-athletes, coaches and administrators, 34 Kenneth "Red" Cochrane Meritorious Service Award recipients and 24 Mike Krino Varsity "A" Achievement awardees.
