Former "Mr. Football" sentenced to 30 years for brutal home invasion

CANTON, OH (WOIO) - The 19-year-old convicted in a brutal North Canton home invasion was sentenced to 30 years in prison Tuesday afternoon.

Two-time "Mr. Football" winner, Erick Howard, was convicted of rape and robbery last week.

Prosecutors say Howard and 19-year-old Seth Obermiller broke into a home on Sunford Avenue SE while the residents were asleep last August. A third man, Michael Taylor, acted as the look-out.

The suspects tied the victims' hands and feet with duct tape and held guns to their heads while demanding money and cell phones. Next, they sexually assaulted the female victim.

Obermiller accepted a plea deal and is currently serving a seven-year sentence.

Howard rejected a plea deal that would have sent him to prison for 12 years.
