(WOIO) - It can take a long time to heal from the pain and sadness of a broken heart. But heart experts warn for some people it can be very real and actually do damage to the heart.
"Broken Heart Syndrome" is a temporary heart condition that emotional stress triggers.
"Broken Heart Syndrome" affects mostly women and, in many cases, comes on suddenly after an intense event like the death of a loved one or even being surprised.
Doctors say they see about 30,000 cases of broken heart syndrome every year in the United States. In most cases, the heart recovers within three months.
