Driver of stolen car critically injured during police chase

BEREA, OH (WOIO) - A man is in critical condition after a late-night police chase in Cuyahoga County.

According to Berea Police, the incident started just before midnight Monday morning.

This, after a woman called police claiming her 26-year-old son, Richard Tennant, assaulted her boyfriend at her home then stole her prescription drugs, car keys and her car. "He just knocked down my boyfriend...took his coat and took the car keys.. and took my car!" says June Tennant.

Moments later, a Berea police officer spotted the car on North Rocky River Drive. The officer tried to pull the driver over, but ignored the officer and got onto I-71 instead.

Tennant lost control of the vehicle near West 65th, rolled the car several times and ended up in the median.

Tennant was found unconscious in the car, he was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was last listed in critical condition.

Charges are pending.
